Power Supply Adaptors

When you purchase a new device, it will not necessarily include a dedicated power supply adaptor. If it does not , then you need to purchase a power supply adaptor that is suitable for your device.

What an AC power supply adaptor does is convert main power AC (110-240 V) into a usually smaller DC voltage that smaller devices need. Quite often you will use them to charge up your battery. Originally, most AC/DC adaptors were linear power supply adaptors, and hence a common term for them is linear adaptors.
Power supply and adaptors
How can you know what power supply adaptor your device requires to operate? Start by inspecting the device. Usually, you will be able to find labels or symbols on the device that indicate the power supply and adaptors required, either by voltage or mAh/A. V (sometimes VAC or VCD) is indicative of the input voltage – your power supply adaptor needs to match the value of the indicated V exactly. mAh/A is the unit used to denote the current consumption. AC/DC indicates the required voltage type – your power supply adaptor must have an mAh equal to or higher than

The Indicated Adaptor.

In addition, the polarity of the power supply adaptor and your device must match. Finally, you obviously need to check the plug size of your device and match it to the power supply adaptor. Generally, there are two measurements for these types of connectors:

  • OD – Outer diameter of the plug.
  • ID – Inner diameter of the plug.

If all this sounds complicated, have no fear- AVIVC&EMS has adaptors for literally any device and our representatives will be happy to guide you through the process of selecting an adaptor suitable for your device.
